John 10:27 “My sheep listen to My voice; I know them, and they follow Me.” – Jesus

John 16:13a “When the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all the truth. For He will not speak on His own, but He will speak whatever He hears.” – Jesus

John 14:26 “But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, will teach you all things and remind you of everything I have told you.” – Jesus

A life of high-impact involves listening for and doing what the Holy Spirit prompts.

Listening to the Holy Spirit can super size your life impact! This is part of what Jesus meant when He promised: “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come on you, and you will be My witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” (Acts 1:8)

But we must listen for His promptings like Philip did a few chapters later in Acts: “The Spirit told Philip, “Go and join that chariot.” (Acts 8:29) The result was that Philip got to lead the man in the chariot to Jesus and baptize him! Wow!

God is already speaking to YOU.

4 Common Ways God Speaks to Us

  1. The Bible. God always communicates to us through the plain meaning of Scripture and also through Scripture penetrating our hearts based on our specific circumstances (2 Timothy 3:16; Psalm 19:10-12).
  2. Whispers. The still small voice of God often comes through a gentle nudge inside, something going off in your spirit like a soft beeping alarm, or thoughts that are not our own but from the Holy Spirit (Mark 3:11; Acts 8:29; Acts 13:2; Acts 20:23).
  3. Images. Dreams as we sleep or visions that we see while awake, almost as if they are in our imagination, can be from God (Acts 16:9-10; Acts 2:17; Acts 10:9-18)
  4. Burdens. You may feel overwhelming compassion, heavyhearted, or compelled by God that you must do something (Acts 20:22; Jeremiah 20:9; Matthew 9:36; Luke 19:41-46).
