Scripture Focus:
Psalm 27:4 (NIV) — “One thing I ask from the LORD, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the LORD and to seek Him in His temple.”
Last week, at the burning bush, Moses asked God a question about himself. “Who am I?” And God did not answer it. Instead of listing what Moses had, or explaining why he was the right choice, God said something else entirely: “I will be with you.” We often hear those words as courage for the road ahead, as if His presence were the strength we need to get the job done. That is true. But this week I want to look at His presence itself, not just what it does for us.
David had every reason to ask God for other things. He was hunted, worn down, often in real danger. And out of everything he could have requested, he says there is one thing he keeps coming back to. Not rescue or answers… He wants to be near enough to simply be with God. Being with Him was not the means to something else; it was the point.
There is an invitation in that for us. So much of what we bring to God is tied to something we need, and He meets us in all of it, gladly. But He is offering something even better underneath it. He does not only want to help us. He wants us. His presence is the point, not just something that happens along the way.
David knew that, and so he asked for one thing: to be near to God.

This week, spend a few minutes with God with nothing to accomplish in them. Not to prepare for anything. Not to fix anything. Just to be with Him, because He is worth being with.
