James 4 reminds us that life is but a vapor and that we never know what tomorrow holds. Psalm 90:12 tells us to number our days that we may gain a heart of wisdom. Though we may have read or even heard these scriptures before, it’s always great to refresh our memory and position our lives to live accordingly. How are you doing living out the old saying, “Seize the moment?”
We can often get caught up in so many things that we lose sight of what is truly important, and we miss opportunities to seize the moment. I was watching a very interesting documentary recently highlighting song writers in Nashville, TN. I was so moved by a few of the statements I found myself rewinding the program several times to hear them again.
One was a clip regarding the legendary Country Music star, Garth Brooks. He had heard a demo of the song The Dance written by Tony Arata that caught his attention. Someone turned to Garth and said, “If you don’t record this, it will be the greatest hit you never had.”
Garth Brooks ended up recording The Dance as the final track for his self-titled album that debuted in 1990. It was a huge hit reaching #1 on the Billboard Country Music Chart for three weeks. The same year, it won Song of the Year and Video of the Year. In addition, it was an international sensation and was included in CMT’s 100 Greatest Songs of Country Music! What if Garth Brooks hadn’t seized the moment, taken the chance, and danced The Dance? His life may look a bit different.
