“And whoever gives you a cup of water to drink in my name, because you belong to Christ – truly I tell you, he will never lose his reward.” – Mark 9:41
Do you ever think to yourself, “No one ever notices the things I do.” Or, “I feel like I’m supposed to do this thing, but it doesn’t seem like a big deal if I don’t do it because no one will notice.”
There is one truth we can understand and hold on to: GOD NOTICES!
The young adult group at my church was heading out on the trip of a lifetime to Israel. I heard through the grapevine that drivers were needed to take them to the airport. However, because these are big 15-passenger vans, I had to take online training and pass a driver's test in the van.
Sensing God nudging me to respond, I decided because they needed drivers that I would do what was asked. It brought back memories of trying to get my first driver's license. I got certified, and I had the great opportunity to take them to the airport.
I don’t think it was that big of a deal, but any obedience to what God asks of us is a huge deal to Him. When we act by faith in obedience to the Lord, He keeps track and remembers even the most trivial service to others — even if others don’t see it.
Remember, we serve ultimately for an audience of One!
CHALLENGE:
What is a service to someone you have been putting off because you think it’s too trivial to be significant? Obey what the Lord is asking of you today, even if it’s just giving a cup of water to someone who is thirsty. Do it in the name of Christ!
