Kiss Cam

My husband and I went to check out through one of the manual checkout lines at the store. He was busy scanning all the items one by one from the cart as I stood and watched. He loves using those little scanner guns. I think he chooses to go through manual checkout just so he can play around with the scanner guns. I personally prefer the old-fashioned way of working with a live cashier. I enjoy the personal interaction. And for whatever reason, I always find a way of tripping up the self-checkout and requiring a customer service representative to come over and help me out by resetting the machine.

As my husband was intently scanning all the parts and pieces he needed for our upcoming project, I couldn’t help but notice the camera right above his head, pointed directly at him, taking in his every move and displaying it on the small screen in front of him. He could watch his own actions live and in real time, and so could everyone else. Everything was being recorded as if he was the star of the show!

I could not help myself. I had to make my move. With urgency, I said, “Look,” as I pointed up at the camera in front of him. He looked up quickly! I said, “It’s a Kiss Cam!” I didn’t waste any time. I immediately stole a kiss from him as he was looking directly into the camera!

Surprise! I leaned in and gave him a kiss right there at the Lowe’s checkout. He was caught off guard, and it was all on camera. As you can imagine, he simply shook his head but gave a bit of a grin at the same time and carried on. Now, it’s our cute little thing at Lowe’s and Home Depot! Well… okay, it’s my thing with him more than his. If you see me at a Lowe’s or Home Depot or even Target with my husband, you may catch us on what I have dubbed the Kiss Cam at checkout! I try not to miss an opportunity when I am with him.

I took advantage of another so-called “Kiss Cam” moment recently with my husband. It was a repeat, 2.0! My husband knows how to play along with my game now, so he doesn’t fight me on it! Only this time, unbeknownst to us, another man and his wife were paying attention. As they walked by toward the exit, the husband leaned over to my husband and said, “Mine didn’t work. My wife didn’t kiss me!”

I said, “Don’t worry! I bet she will next time when she’s in front of the Kiss Cam with you!”

On a serious note, I understand those cameras are functioning as a deterrent against theft. Sadly, they are almost a necessity in today’s world with crime continually on the rise. It’s disappointing that we live with the reality of such theft and unlawful actions. Technology has most certainly helped bring accountability to unlawfulness.

There are plenty of overwhelming crime statistics and disappointments plaguing us in this life, and they have continued to multiply for generations since sin entered the world with Adam and Eve. There are plenty of disheartening things that can bring us down and disappoint us if we let them.

The Bible says, life is but a vapor! We do not know what tomorrow holds (James 4:14)! Make the most of today. Life can be hard and heavy at times and in various seasons or chapters in our lives. We can learn to find joy in the journey. Let’s take a moment and remind ourselves of God’s Word:

  • Psalm 118:24, “This is the day that the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it” (ESV).
  • Galatians 5:22-23, “But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things” (NLT).
  • Psalm 16:11, “You will show me the way of life, granting me the joy of your presence and the pleasures of living with you forever” (NLT).
  • Romans 15:13, “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope” (ESV).
  • Nehemiah 8:10, “…for this day is holy to our Lord. And do not be grieved, for the joy of the LORD is your strength” (ESV).
  • Proverbs 17:22, “A joyful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones” (ESV).

Please pause and re-read these Scriptures. What jumps out at you? I believe our Father in heaven, the God of hope, would love to add a pep in your step and joy in your journey today! Rejoice in today. May you experience the joy of God’s presence. May you be filled with joy and peace, and may His joy be your strength! Look up! God your Father may have you on His Kiss Cam today! Look for God winks throughout your day and enjoy the moments He is giving you!
