God Chooses First

You did not choose me, but I chose you.” – John 15:16

I will never forget the day I gave my life to Christ as my Lord and Savior. It was an incredible moment that did not happen just overnight but was 33 years of the Lord chasing me and allowing me to go my own way until I recognized God’s incredible love for me. All my sin in a split second was gone, and the weight that I had been carrying around vanished.

Not long after, I was reading, and John 15:16 jumped out at me as if I had never read it before, and I grew up in the church. The thought gripped me that it wasn’t me that chose Jesus–the reality was, He chose me! The verse wrecked me with the thought that Jesus would want to choose me even after the things that I did.

God has been the first to choose since the beginning of time. He chose Adam and Eve. He chose the Israelites. He chose Abraham, Moses, Joseph, David, Paul, and He chose YOU. This thought humbles us and brings us to a place of thankfulness and gratitude. We worship God in awe of how good He truly is to us – and we get to share that Good News with a desperate world!

CHALLENGE:

Take a moment and reflect on God choosing you personally to be in relationship with Him. Allow this reflection on His goodness to lead you into a posture of intimacy and worship this week as you thank Him for choosing you. Ask God for opportunities to share His choosing love with those around you!
