Serving a God

who miraculously saves

“Lord, if you spare him, he could be a preacher,” Grandma prayed through the night. It seemed pneumonia would suffocate Keith’s infant life. God miraculously saved him, and apparently heard her request.

“Keith’s hurt!” A truck rested on Keith’s five-year-old body. The hospital found no broken bones or even a bruise. Returning home, Keith’s Dad said, “God spared you for a purpose, perhaps to serve Him in ministry.” God miraculously saved him, and hinted at an assignment.

“God, I know Jesus died for me. Can I start over?” Keith resembled a good Christian teenager, but his heart chose distance from God for several years. On Father’s Day, at age 15, he desperately wanted everything settled between him and God. “Come now, let’s settle this. Though your sins are like scarlet, I will make them as white as snow. Though they are red like crimson, I will make them as white as wool” (Isaiah 1:18). God miraculously and graciously saved him!

“If you question God’s will, come ask Him. Then just listen.” The itinerant speaker’s invitation appealed to Keith, a high school senior who recently surrendered his plan to pursue God’s. But he didn’t hear anything. Following prayer a church leader asked, “Have you heard of the *Institute of World Christian Discipleship?” Deep peace confirmed this was God’s next step.

About Keith
Keith earned a bachelor’s degree in Biblical studies and served 11 years as a pastor. In 2001 he married his best friend, Melissa. They have two adult children, Ben and Rachel.

“I feel like I’m being restored,” Keith whispered tearfully to God. At 40, Keith felt worthless, useless, lifeless, hopeless. Hearing God’s voice again was like CPR to his desert soul. Many throughout the Bible and history faced similar scenarios, but encountered a Master Restorer. “You will restore me to life again and lift me up from the depths of the earth” (Psalm 71:20). God slowly put Keith back together.

One day Keith felt God’s intense desire to restore countless other broken lives. He believes some of tomorrow’s greatest Jesus-followers, pastors, missionaries, intercessors, kingdom advancers, feel broken beyond repair tonight. But God is going to raise them up! Seeking to partner with God in this endeavor, he recently wrote God’s Restoration Shop: Where Broken Pieces Become Masterpieces and enthusiastically speaks about the God who still saves, calls, and restores!
