about God's word
Like the Hibiscus, the national flower of Haiti, Gavenski’s life in Christ and his passion for the spiritually lost took time to blossom. As a child, he was introduced to church by his mother, and he credits his grandfather with teaching him how to pray and trust God’s Word. Of the many times his grandfather gathered the grandchildren to help them hear and memorize the Bible, Gavenski recalls most vividly this verse and promise: “I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread” (Psalm 37:25).
Gavenski was 18 when he committed his life to Jesus. His life in Christ firmly planted, God watered, tilled, and tended some needed growth in Gavenski over the next five years. “It wasn’t until I started getting serious about God’s Word,” Gavenski recollects, “that the Holy Spirit started to open my eyes.” Like Hibiscus tea steeped in water, Gavenski’s life, bathed in the work of the Holy Spirit, became full and flavorful. And the aroma of Christ began fragrantly flowing from his life.
Originally from Haiti, Gavenski’s passion for Jesus and others led him to study God’s Word in the U.S. Now, as an equipped gospel ambassador, nothing is more important to Gavenski than representing Christ and His Kingdom wherever he goes. “My life is not my own,” Gavenski often shares, “I belong to Christ Jesus.”
Like the Apostle Paul, the life Gavenski lives is Christ living in him (Galatians 2:20). And Gavenski is ready to share the cleansing, freeing, purpose-giving life Jesus brings—as often as possible, with as many people he as can. He knows “nothing, nothing in this world is as precious to God” than those He created and loves.
