After the Mountaintop

Scripture Focus:

Philippians 1:6 (NIV) — “He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”

Have you ever driven home from a conference sure that everything was about to change? Somewhere in the last session, you made a quiet promise to yourself. You were going to read your Bible in the mornings. You were going to pray for 15 minutes before the day started and slow down with the people you love. For a week or two, it held. Then the mornings got busy, the promise got smaller, and the old habits settled back in.

If that sounds familiar, you are not alone. There is a real discouragement that settles in when a good commitment slips one more time, a quiet sense that your good intentions never quite stick.

Here is what often happens next. When a new habit slips, we decide the whole thing failed, so we drop it completely. We tell ourselves we are simply not the kind of person who prays for 15 minutes, and we walk away from the idea altogether.

But God may not be asking you to quit. He may be inviting you to adjust your commitment for the season you are actually in. Maybe 15 minutes becomes three honest minutes in the car. The goal was never the length of the prayer or how disciplined you are, even though that is easy to assume. It is simply being with Him.

And here is the good news. You do not have to grow all at once. A mountaintop moment was never meant to be the finish line. It is more like a map. For a moment you can see the road ahead a little more clearly. Now you get to walk it with Jesus, one ordinary step at a time.

God is not in a hurry. He would rather walk the whole road with you.

Weekly Challenge:

Think of one commitment that slipped. Instead of forcing it back, ask God what being with Him could look like in this season, and let Him set the pace.
